U.S. Beauty Spending & Category Growth Statistics 2026: Fragrance, Skincare, Hair and Prices

A source-led 2026 U.S. beauty-market reference combining Circana retail category growth with BLS consumer-price data, while keeping sales, units and prices clearly separated.

Beauty growth in 2026 is not evenly distributed. Fragrance, skincare and treatment-led hair are growing at different rates across prestige and mass retail, while consumer prices move separately from unit demand.

How to read this beauty statistics page

Circana and BLS answer different questions. Circana measures retail sales and units in defined beauty channels. BLS Consumer Price Index data measures price change for consumer categories.

A 7% increase in sales is not the same as a 7% increase in unit demand, and neither is the same as inflation. The sections below keep those measures separate.

02

Prestige U.S. beauty sales reached $17.1 billion in the first half of 2026

Circana reported that prestige beauty retail dollar sales increased 7% year over year to $17.1 billion during the first six months of 2026.

Mass retail beauty sales also increased 7%, reaching $39.2 billion. Circana noted that unit demand remained positive across both sides of the market.

U.S. beauty segmentH1 2026 salesYear-over-year dollar growth
Prestige beauty$17.1B+7%
Mass retail beauty$39.2B+7%
Circana reported $17.1B in prestige beauty sales and $39.2B in mass beauty sales in H1 2026.
03

Fragrance remained a major growth engine

Prestige fragrance dollar sales increased 6% in the first half of 2026. Circana attributed the increase primarily to premiumization, with average prices up 5% while unit sales were flat.

In mass retail, fragrance sales increased 15% and units rose 7%. The difference matters: mass fragrance growth reflected both demand and pricing, while prestige fragrance was more price-led.

Fragrance metricH1 2026 change
Prestige fragrance dollar sales+6%
Prestige fragrance average price+5%
Prestige fragrance unitsFlat
Mass fragrance dollar sales+15%
Mass fragrance units+7%
Prestige fragrance growth was more price-led, while mass fragrance showed both dollar and unit growth.
04

Prestige skincare grew 9%

Prestige skincare was the fastest-growing prestige category in Circana’s first-half report, with dollar sales up 9% and units up double digits.

Within prestige skincare, body care sales rose 16% and sun care increased 19%. Circana also described face cream, cleanser and eye treatment as contributors to category health.

05

Prestige hair care grew 11%

Prestige hair-care dollar sales increased 11% and units rose 8% in the first half of 2026. Hair treatments were the main growth driver.

Circana reported particularly rapid growth in hair serums, which increased nearly 60%, while masks, oils, leave-in treatments and scalp-focused products also grew.

Selected category growth rates from Circana’s H1 2026 U.S. beauty release.
06

Mass hair grew differently from prestige hair

Mass-market hair-care dollars rose 7% while units declined. That pattern points to the importance of separating dollar growth from physical demand.

Circana identified shampoo and conditioner combo packs as a strong area, with double-digit growth in dollars and units.

07

Consumer prices provide a separate context

BLS CPI data for July 2026 showed prices for “cosmetics, perfume, bath, nail preparations and implements” up 3.0% from a year earlier.

BLS August data showed personal care services up 4.2% year over year. These are price indexes, not retail-sales figures, and should be cited as such.

BLS CPI category12-month change
Cosmetics, perfume, bath, nail preparations and implements+3.0% (July 2026)
Personal care services+4.2% (August 2026)
BLS price indexes provide price context and should not be confused with retail-sales growth.
08

What the mix suggests for storage and organization content

By Sady does not treat category growth as proof that every household owns more products. The practical editorial implication is narrower: fragrance, skincare and treatment-led hair remain economically important categories, so storage guides around bottles, daily routines and tools address active product ecosystems.

That supports deeper organization coverage without turning market data into a claim about any individual reader.

09

Methodology and citation limits

Circana’s public release reports channel-specific U.S. retail performance for prestige and mass beauty. Researchers should preserve those channel labels and the first-half 2026 period.

BLS CPI measures price change faced by consumers. It should not be used as a proxy for sales, market size or unit demand.

10

Selected data and source reuse

The companion CSV contains only selected figures reproduced from the cited public releases for convenience. Researchers should return to the original Circana and BLS sources for definitions and updates.

Every chart should label whether it is dollars, units or price change.

  • Selected-data CSV: /data/us-beauty-spending-category-growth-statistics-2026.csv
  • Market period: first half of 2026 for Circana retail data.
  • Price period: July/August 2026 for cited BLS CPI figures.
  • Last editorial data check: October 2, 2026.
